If you’re familiar with Apple Computer’s new Tiger operating system, then you may know what a “widget” is. But, have you downloaded the latest “Gas” widget?

For those not using the Apple OS, not yet figuring out how to use them on their PC, or just not entirely sure what a widget is, know that these little programs are about to make your computing life, and more, a whole lot easier. Hit F12 on your Tiger-equipped Apple and these simple-task windows with great-looking graphic user interfaces pop up. Go to the Apple website and you can find widgets that do everything from tracking news and flights to measurement and language conversions.

One of the newest downloadable widgets is one called simply “Gas”. Gas monitors gasoline prices nationally and reports the cheapest gas prices based on geographic location entered via zipcode. It can also break prices down by fuel grade, and even includes pricing for diesel.

Even more intuitive, clicking on the address of the gas station will pop open a web browser that automatically maps the location via Google maps.
