HPA Motorsports and Steve Goldin Racing joined with RennGruppe Motorsports and Brimtek to campaign a pair of DSG-equipped Volkswagen Jettas for the 2012 SCCA World Challenge series, resulting in a podium finish. The successful debut of these tuned Jettas solidifies HPA’s entry into the four-cylinder aftermarket.
Race two saw the standing start claim two GTS cars trapping the pole sitter and teammate Altenburg, sliding them to the back of the field before turn one. Patience and a management strategy on brakes kept the drivers cool. Both 2.0TSI engines performed without flaw and the DSG offered a perfect solution for hitting the shifts hard and fast to gain ground.
With two laps to go in the second race, both HPA Jettas were freight-training to the front when Jeff lost his brakes and came to pit lane where he was retired. Tristan in car 33 was struggling with his brakes but managed to get one last lap in to claim third place on the podium.
"The RennGruppe team built two amazing chassis, the KW Suspensions coliover was competitive straight out of the box, and our drivers, simply put, Got 'er Done," according to the HPA crew. "The entire team is ecstatic with the performance of the DSG and 2.0TSI. Herbert and Altenburg drove smart races while adjusting to their new cars. We have a long season ahead, but feel that the 2012 Jetta TSI is a solid foundation and we will continue to develop our powertrain program from here."
