How long have you owned this car?
Five years.

Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
It is my second VW after I wrecked my A2 Jetta. It’s my road car to drive home to and from New Orleans when school is out in Jacksonville. This car brought me home after Katrina.

Why did you choose this car to purchase?
I love red as a color on a car and I was dying to have a VR6, and I knew that the B4 Passats were kinda rare in Tornado Red with 5-speeds.

What other cars did you consider?
1991 Mercedes 300D 2.5 turbo.

What was your objective with this car?
To have a nice everyday car that is unique, which this car is, not plastered all over Florida or Louisiana. I constantly get looks with it.

What tuning style best describes this car (ex. Euro, Bling, OEMplus, street racer, auto crosser)?
OEM plus.

Who helped you build this car?
My father and my mechanic, Marc Isaacs of BWM Tech.

What makes your car special?
It’s 10 years old, totally original, has 151,400 miles and looks like new.

What is your favorite part/feature/function?
3000 rpm and third gear.

Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
I just wanted to make it stand out amongst the crowd.

What don't you like about this car?
Some people call it an old peoples’ car or a Jetta!

What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
Finding parts, since it’s not a big VW tuner scene car and it’s low in popularity. And, of course, money; school always comes first.

How did you overcome the issue?
I have scoured the Internet and found a couple of overseas suppliers, since this model is very popular in Europe.

What would you change if you could?
I would love to be able to put spacers on the wheel to go wide, but the body really doesn’t allow it.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
7.5. The interior could look better or have more done to it.

What would you do to the car if money were no object?
Put coilovers on it, turbo the VR. Then E-codes and some 928 wheels. This car looks good when there is a lot of wheel shoved in the wheel well.

Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
My father, but I am really hard on myself when it comes down to doing it right. I always like to have everything on it correct to the car, and VW or Bosch original parts. I like having OEM reliability since I can put 1000 or more miles on my car in a week at times.

What do your family and friends say about this car?
My mom thinks it’s obnoxious because it scrapes everywhere in New Orleans and it makes her seasick. My friends like it but are afraid to ride, since I drive aggressively.

What is your most memorable/humorous/embarrassing moment with this car?
It’s really slow at the track with a full tank of gas.

Has this car competed in any events? Results?
A couple car shows in Jax. — Ninth Annual Volkswagens at the Beach, First in Class and Best of Show, and Water Cooled
Southeastern Nationals, Second in the VW class.

What is your favorite place to drive this car?
The Pontchartrain Bridge and the winding roads and hills of Roswell, GA.

What is your ideal day with this car?
Clear sky, cool breeze, and the windows down and the sunroof open. And a nice winding road, which is hard to find in Florida.

Who gets to drive this car?
Me and me only!

If your car had a motto, what would it be?
Slow and steady is the winner.

If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
Panzer.

What was your previous project?
1991 craptastic Jetta GL, Tornado Red.

What is your next project?
Rebuilding the top end of the VR. I really love this car and I am not ready to get rid of it yet.

What one word best describes your car?
Simplicity.

Anything else you’d like to share?
I’m single, I like long walks on the beach, and moonlit nights, candle-lit dinners… umm, yeah, I’m done.
