How long have you owned this car?
452 days.

Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
Found with a quirky description on Craigslist. I purchased it for $150 from the original owner. He would only let the car go to a good home; he turned down three people before agreeing to sell it to me.

Why did you choose this car to purchase?
The Fox is not a car you see every day. I was drawn to its uniqueness; after all, it’s the oddball of the VW family.

What other cars did you consider?
None.

What was your objective with this car?
I wanted to end up with a reliable, original, stylish daily driver for the least amount of money possible.

What tuning style best describes this car (Euro, Bling, OEMplus, street racer, auto crosser)?
Retro.

Who helped you build this car?
I performed all work myself.

What makes your car special?
Many of the parts and modifications are derived from other vehicles and large appliances… yup, large household appliances.

What is your favorite part/feature/function?
The 3-color checkerboard roof.

Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
The crazy voices in my head.

What don't you like about this car?
Nothing. It’s my perfect Fox.

What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
Indecision. I had so many different ideas as to what I wanted to do; it was hard to pick the direction I wanted to go.

How did you overcome the issue?
Help from the friendly Fox Forum members (thanks guys and gals).

What would you change if you could?
Nothing.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
10.

What would you do to the car if money were no object?
Just stay the course, and stick to my original goals… so basically, nothing I am not currently doing.

Who has been your biggest critic of this project? The general population. They just don’t understand.

What do your family and friends say about this car?
“Why do you have checkers on your roof? Do you have the pieces that go with that?”

What is your most memorable/humorous/embarrassing moment with this car?
“And the award for the most ghetto car goes to…” — at Crooked Euros’ OktoberFest ’06.

Has this car competed in any events? Results?
Second place in Other VW class and “Most Ghetto” at Crooked Euros’ OktoberFest ’06.

What is your favorite place to drive this car?
The winding back roads of western PA.

What is your ideal day with this car?
Every day in the Fox is an ideal day.

Who gets to drive this car?
Me, and the girlfriend if the Fox doesn’t object.

If your car had a motto, what would it be?
What are you looking at?!?

If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
“The Fox.”

What was your previous project?
‘86 Jetta coupe.

What is your next project?
‘95 Golf.

What one word best describes your car?
Unique.
