How long have you owned this car? 2 years

Is there anything unique about the history of this car? Yes. It began life as a CL model and belonged to a couple of friends before I picked it up.

Why did you choose this car to purchase? I loved the color, which btw is Steel Blue Metallic, pretty rare.

What other cars did you consider? Haha, other than a Mk1 I consider the Mk2 to be the ultimate VW, (at least what was available to us) and so I guess you could say I’ve considered putting time and effort into a Mk2 golf. Golf 2’s are where my heart is.

What was your objective with this car? To make a daily driver, that could out-perform most high-end sports cars, and be comfortable and subtle otherwise.

What tuning style would you describe this car as? Motorsport with a touch of class!

Who helped you build this car? My friends, especially my good friend Alexi (many of you probably know of his Sequoa Green GTI VR6-T).

What makes your car special? Its color and the fact that it has such low milaege

What is your favorite part/feature/function? I really love having the turbo. It is so responsive with minimal lag, and makes for very fun drives.

Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car? I live in Vancouver which is hometown to shops such as Kinetic Motorsport, HPA Motorsport, so to go turbo was only natural. As far as styling inspiration, that came from being a dedicated enthusiast for over 15 years.

What don't you like about this car? The fact that I deleted all my locks and I don’t have keyless entry. I have to crawl through the trunk, over all the bars of the cage to unlock it everyday!

What was your biggest obstacle in building this car? Not cutting any corners and keeping the install of the motor and turbo super clean. Also trying to re-wire the car with a new harness.

How did you overcome the issue? Lots of late nights

What would you change if you could? Shave and smooth the bumpers and R32 oil pan conversion

On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project? 8, always a couple things left to do…

What would you do to the car if money were no object? Don’t get me started!

Who has been your biggest critic of this project? My friends and people in the local tuning scene.

What do your family and friends say about this car? Well my girlfriend loves it, so I guess that’s all that matters, right?

What is your most memorable moment with this car? This car has had a few. It is most memorably known for cracking oil pans.

Has this car competed in any events?Yes, at the Great Canadian Car Show. It received Honorable Mention by the judges.

What is your favorite place to drive this car? Early Saturday mornings, go to get my Starbucks, when people are still sleeping in…I’ll pull out of my downtown underground onto quiet and empty streets and open it up. Nothing like the sound of a VRT echoing off downtown skyscrapers! I also love long open stretches of highway.

What is your ideal day with this car? A cruise down the west coast

Who gets to drive this car? Myself, and sometimes I’ll toss the keys to a friend. I don’t have a problem with letting other people drive it.

If your car had a motto, what would it be? Seek and Destroy

If you had to name your car, what would you name it? Sorry Im bad with names, although it has gone under the alias VR-Tron in the past.

What was your previous project? I had a few Golf 2s that I drove. The most recent one I am actually buying back soon; well the shell anyway.

What is your next project? I am building up a Golf 2 with a VR swap. Inpiration will be from cars such as that blue bad boy fronted VR6 Kompressor from way back

What one word best describes your car? Excellence
