Destination SoWo: Passat Sport Roadtrip Share Comments 584 miles. That’s the distance that separates Volkswagen of America’s Herndon, VA headquarters and Helen, GA, the site of Southern Worthersee (a.k.a. SOWO). Like many enthusiasts, VWvortex contributor Tim Enders and I will be making the pilgrimage to the event that many consider the kick-off of the 2014 Volkswagen show season. Our weapon of choice for the journey is a 2014 Volkswagen Passat Sport equipped with the new 1.8 TSI, and finished in Urano Gray. Now I know what you’re saying, “Really? A Passat Sport?” Yes, really, and here’s why. The Passat Sport is a great car for a road trip- it’s comfortable, spacious, rated at 34mpg highway, it has a SIRIUS Satellite Radio subscription, and we think it’s a sharp looking (stock) car with the Sport’s 19 inch wheels and subtle lip spoiler. It will also help us fly under the radar, which is always a good thing. But this isn’t just about the destination, its about the journey- which is why we will be documenting the entire trip down via VWvortex’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts. As of right now, the plan is to leave from Volkswagen of America tomorrow morning at 5:30am and head south on Interstate 81, over to Knoxville on Interstate 40, then south to Route 129 to explore how ‘sporty’ the Passat Sport really is on the Tail of the Dragon, and finally end up in Helen. In total Google Maps claims our route will take us 620 miles before the inevitable detours to roadside oddities. You can follow along with our progress on the VWvortex social media pages, and feel free to tag us should you happen to stumble upon our Passat Sport by using #PassatSport2SOWO. We’ll see you there… and if you don’t make it down, watch for our event report early next week.
