Event Report: Waterfest 20

Now in its 20th year, Waterfest continues to bring Volkswagen and Audi enthusiasts from around the US and Canada to Englishtown, New Jersey for one weekend each July.  For Waterfest 20 it seemed that mother nature has become a fan as well, gracing us with a mid-summer version of the ‘Polar Vortex’ (no relation to this website), which had a much higher approval rating than the one we lived through this winter.

It may have caused sweater weather at night, but nobody seemed to mind.

As usual, Waterfest served as a showroom of the latest and greatest from a large list of vendors including APR, New German Performance, RS WORX, Forge Motorsport, Orchid Euro and many more.  With the MK7 GTI now available at dealers, sightings were a common occurrence with the level of customization ranging from RocEuro’s bagged GTI to Messer Motorsports’ Ottenger-kitted example.

On Saturday after the vendors had closed for the night, Waterfest hosted its second annual ‘Afterfest’, which works to add some control to the nighttime shenanigans that were commonplace at earlier editions of the show.  While it may not be quite the same as the legendary Chili’s get togethers and hotel hopping that used to happen, it is nearly as much fun.

With a limbo competition, live DJ, burnout competition, and staff favorites from earlier in the day being handed Golden Tickets to the event, there is a lot to take in.  We definitely recommend checking it out if you are on the fence about attending.

Once the gates are opened on Sunday, the show begins with many feverishly prepping their cars for judging, and swarms of people heading out to look at some of the most impressively modified Volkswagens and Audis in North America. Sunday also brought about the premiere of the recently-imported Corrado Magnum design concept vehicles on US soil, which seemed to be a hit with the crowd.  In total, we took nearly 1700 pictures at the event and likely still missed a few cars.
