This is a big year for the Volkswagen Group in Detroit and no one is more aware of that than VW. With three new Audis and three new VWs to show off, as well as a handful of less novel, but no less exciting vehicles hanging around, it's a great year to visit the show.

Volkswagen wants 2017 to be the year of SUVs (#SUVW2017) and as such they've got three new SUVs at COBO Hall for the North American International Auto Show: the 2018 Tiguan, the Atlas (and the Atlas R-Line), and the I.D. Buzz.

Naturally, the most exciting of three was the I.D. Buzz, an all electric mircobus and yet another in the long line of microbus-esque concepts. Getting clean shots of the Buzz was remarkably difficult, because it was constantly thronged by hungry photographers.

The 2018 Tiguan, meanwhile, proved to be an attractive and sizable new interpretation of the model. With a 10 inch advantage over the previous model, the new Tiguan should have more of a fighting chance.

Meanwhile at Audi, there was an exciting  new show car, the Q8. Designed as an SUV coupe, it takes inspiration from the original Audi S1 Quattro.

The new Q5 has also gotten the S treatment. With air ride suspension and more than 350 hp, the SQ5 is a hot version of what may be Audi's most important model.
