Quality photos won’t hurt your chances any, either, so please include up to five with your submission. Next up, and winner of this week’s NGP Racing $50.00 gift certificate is VWvortex reader: i_love_my_dasher Q: How long have you owned this car? A: Almost a year now. Q: Is there anything unique about the history of this car? A: It’s had only one original owner before I snagged it. Q: Why did you choose this car to purchase? A: Just look at it! Q: What other cars did you consider? A: I was looking for a ’94 Mazda Protégé at the time, but I had to have this VW. Q: What was your objective with this car? A: You mean, what IS my objective? To keep it as original and as Euro as possible. Q: What tuning style would you describe this car as? A: Full-blooded Euro. Q: Who helped you build this car? A: My “VW guy”, Patric, at M&M Auto in Hillsboro, OR, my buddy David Santoro, and my boyfriend Mark. Q: What makes your car special? A: The fact that it’s a Dasher Coupe with a fastback hatch. It makes it look very different than most Volkswagens, kind of like an overweight Scirocco. Q: What is your favorite part/feature/function? A: I love the silver “Dasher” lettering above the cigarette lighter, the fake wood paneling on the dash, and that old Volkswagen smell you get when you shift at a high RPM. Q: Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car? A: This car is beautiful in its own right. I wanted to keep it as simple and clean as possible so that nothing would take away from the Euro-ness of it. Q: What don’t you like about this car? A: I want to spend every penny on it. Q: What was your biggest obstacle in building this car? A: Easy… money. Q: How did you overcome the issue? A: I got a better job. Q: What would you change if you could? A: I’d drop a ’95 GTI 2-liter engine in it, Euro bumpers, paint job, all black interior, exhaust system, switch to 5-gears… Q: On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project? A: There isn’t really an outcome yet; it’s still a work-in-progress… but I love it how it is right now! Q: Who has been your biggest critic of this project? A: My sisters don’t understand the appeal. Q: What do your family and friends say about this car? A: Most of my friends have Dubs – so they love my car, but my family thinks I’m crazy. Q: What is your most memorable/humorous/embarrassing moment with this car? A: It was having problems with the fuel pump relay and had already gone through two. On my way to taking it back to the shop to test out yet another one, it broke down on the highway. I was seriously about 10 blocks away, and a sweet older man in a Dodge Caravan had to help me push it off the road. Q: Has this car competed in any events? A: Nope, not yet. Q: What is your favorite place to drive this car? A: Through the back roads to Portland. Q: What is your ideal day with this car? A: Driving to the beach with a full tank of gas and Zeppelin in the CD player. Q: Who gets to drive this car? A: Me. I am VERY picky about anyone else driving it. Q: If your car had a motto, what would it be? A: “Kiss me, I’m German!” Q: If you had to name your car, what would you name it? A: It’s named “The Buffalo”, because it’s its own kind of gorgeous. Q: What was your previous project? A: This is my first car. Q: What is your next project? A: Converting a diesel Rabbit to gas for my 16-year-old brother. Q: What one word best describes your car? A: Unique. Q: Other info you’d like to share? A: I ‘heart’ VWs. Q: Are you impressed we made it this far without teasing you about your name? A: No comment.
