Next up, and recipient of this week’s NGP Racing $50.00 gift certificate is VWvortex reader: 16V Corrado
Q: How long have you owned this car?
A: 6 months
Q: Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
A: Yes, I had a G60 prior to buying this Corrado. My supercharger blew it also took my G60 motor with it. So while parting what I could off of the remains of the motor I sold the charger core to someone on the vortex. After nearly 2 years I decided I wanted to get another Corrado. Long story short, I ended up buying a Corrado from the person I sold my blown charger to. It ended up they had KK do a Stage IV rebuild on my blown charger I sold to them and put it in the Corrado I just bought.
Q: Why did you choose this car to purchase?
A: I had known the person who I bought it from for a couple of years and I trusted them…it was also an awesome deal.
Q: What other cars did you consider?
A: A golf TDI
Q: What was your objective with this car?
A: Make it fast, Make it pretty. =]
Q: What tuning style would you describe this car as? (ex. Euro, Bling, OEMplus, street racer, auto crosser).
A: I would consider it a bit of everything. It has a wide range of influences.
Q: Who helped you build this car?
A: My roommate and the previous owner.
Q: What makes your car special?
A: I really just have a love for Corrados now…they are all special to me now.
Q: What is your favorite part/feature/function?
A: I like the spoiler when its working, I also like the MFA for the information it can give you with a click of a button.
Q: Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
A: Not really sure. I really like black Corrados, but this one is red, so I put as much black on it as I could.
Q: What don’t you like about this car?
A: Corrados always break. But once you drive them again, it makes up for all the times it breaks on you. =P
Q: What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
A: The fact that it’s a 15 year old car – all of the stock parts are worn out and need to be replaced.
Q: How did you overcome the issue?
A: Lots of money and time under the car.
Q: What would you change if you could?
A: The color of the car, but that would require WAY more work than I am willing to do. I’m a lazy person.
Q: On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
A: Well, I’m not 100% done yet, but so far I would have to say an 8.
Q: What would you do to the car if money were no object?
A: Syncro, Lysholm, G60 Golf FMIC all at the same time.
Q: Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
A: My parents for sure. They hate that I keep getting project cars.
Q: What do your family and friends say about this car?
A: My family says it’s a waste and that I need to get a more reliable car, my friends love it! A few of them even have Corrados. (My roommate has a G60 as well. In the car port there are 2 G60’s red and green – perfect for the holidays)
Q: What is your most memorable/humorous/embarrassing moment with this car?
A: This actually just happened yesterday, as I was on the freeway going around 80mph my front grille launches off of the front of my car – as I look back in the rear view mirror I see it floating down like a feather back and fourth. After pulling over on the side of the highway, I run back to the grille on the ground (thankfully it wasn’t broken). On my way back to the car a CHP on a motorcycle comes up behind me and asked what’s up? I told him my grille just flew off of my car and his response was “No shit…” laughing. I thought it was pretty amusing as well.
Q: Has this car competed in any events?
A: Not yet.
Q: What is your favorite place to drive this car?
A: In the Santa Cruz Mountains up Highway 1 off of Pescadero road. 90mph + corners…so much fun.
Q: What is your ideal day with this car?
A: A warm overcast day up in the hills.
Q: Who gets to drive this car?
A: My roommate is pretty much the only one I trust to drive it.
Q: If your car had a motto, what would it be?
A: “It’s a Love-Hate thing…”
Q: If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
Q: What was your previous project?
A: A Digi 1 2.0L 16v Corrado
Q: What is your next project?
A: A built MK2 G60 Jetta Coupe
Q: What one word best describes your car?
