Q: Is there anything unique about the history of this car? A: Yep. It’s such a rare combo (year/color/condition) and I found it when everybody said it was impossible to do. VW didn’t paint many cars in this color (Nacar White) and I was lucky to find it in mint condition. Q: Why did you choose this car to purchase? A: I’ve always loved GLS and GTI VWs. This color is awesome and the Recaros are great. The 2.0 has got a lot of torque and it’s fun to drive. Q: What other cars did you consider? A: VW Parati GTI and a Mk2 Golf, but Mk2 Golfs are quite rare in Brasil. I’ve already found some MkIs, mainly cabrios, but no one would sell them. Q: What was your objective with this car? A: To keep it in mint condition as long as I can. I’ve been enjoying searching to replace some parts and details on it. I want to make it look and ride even better than it is now. Q: What tuning style would you describe this car as? A: A tweaked classic. Q: Who helped you build this car? A: My girlfriend Alessandra, my friends Luizinho, Rafael, Toninho (tuner) and my family. Q: What makes your car special? A: Its mint condition and its color. Q: What is your favorite part/feature/function? A: The smooth body shell. Q: Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car? A: All street/race VWs I’ve seen since I was a kid. I always liked tweaked V-dubs, both 8v and 16v with Webers or ITB. Oh, that intake sound is magic… Q: What don’t you like about this car? A: Some internal noises/rattles, but we’re already fixing them. Q: What was your biggest obstacle in building this car? A: Money – lack of money, I mean. Q: How did you overcome the issue? A: I’m still trying to… Q: What would you change if you could? A: I’d drop a 2.0 16v with ITBs in it. Q: On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project? A: For now, I’d give it an “8”. Q: What would you do to the car if money were no object? A: BBS RM 15” wheels, Wilwood brakes and a Drake 16v engine. Well, first I’d have to find one Drake engine to buy. Q: Who has been your biggest critic of this project? A: Me.
