Q: How long have you owned this car?

A: We bought the car new on October 28th, 2003, at Al Sanchez VW in Gilroy, California (I used to work there).

Q: Is there anything unique about the history of this car?

A: Not really, but it’s one of a VERY VERY FEW ’03 Jetta Wagon GLS 1.8T 5-speed in Candy White with Sport Suspension, black leather, Monsoon and ESP. Also it was test driven by VWvortex member Golfvariant at Wes Lasher VW in Sacramento, but he decided to buy the black wagon he has now. The car was then dealer-traded the day I bought it (I didn’t know Golfvariant at the time).

Q: What was your objective with this car?

A: OEM Plus all the way, just like all my other VWs. I was also after the sleeper look – I love sleeper cars.

Q: What tuning style would you describe this car as?

A: OEM Plus.

Q: Who helped you build this car?

A: My wife (it’s her car, after all).

Q: What makes your car special?

A: We own it, and that makes it special enough for us.

Q: What is your favorite part/feature/function?

A: OEM HIDs/OEM Navigation/OEM FIS (Full MFA) Eurocluster …. and more.

Q: Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?

A: VWvortex – more specifically, members Its Dchz, Der Kommissar, Golfvariant, Acedubs, Rob_swift, rubenl, CharlesR, Lilhearst, Deer Killer 337, Paik, Vorsprung, Roger Moore, SVTWEB, and many more.

Q: What don’t you like about this car?

A: I would have liked a 24V VR6 or an R32/4MOTION, BUT you can’t always have everything!!!

Q: What would you change if you could?

A: The engine. I know, I know I’m crazy… Also, I’d change the wheels.

Q: On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?

A: I’d say a 9 – there’s always room for improvement. Always.

Q: What would you do to the car if money were no object?

A: R32/4MOTION swap with HPA Twin Turbo kit. Also, some nice deep dish rims – Tracer Tech 1s. I’d also shave it and add OEM black leather Recaros!

Q: Who has been your biggest critic of this project?

A: Sometimes, seemingly everybody on VWvortex.

Q: What do your family and friends say about this car?

A: They like it a lot (or at least they say they do).

Q: What is your favorite place to drive this car?

Q: What is your ideal day with this car?

A: Any day works for me.

Q: Who gets to drive this car?

A: My wife and myself. That’s it.

Q: If your car had a motto, what would it be?

A: “OEM Plus is the way to go.”

Q: What was your previous project?

A: ’71 Super Beetle (100% stock), ’65 Bug (11-second quarter-mile daily driver, all motor under 2 litres).

Q: What is your next project?

A: Not sure yet

Q: What one word best describes your car?

A: Wagon.
