Next up is VWvortex reader: giome How long have you owned this car? Since June 23, 2006. Is there anything unique about the history of this car? It’s one of the rare MKV GTIs which was tuned right out of the factory by Sportec with their RS 300 kit. Why did you choose this car to purchase? I wanted to get boost. What other cars did you consider? Actually, I wasn’t considering any other car than my previous car. I was happy with my MKIV R32, but when I test drove this GTI I knew I couldn’t resist. What was your objective with this car? Get a car which would cost less than the R (insurance, gas and monthly payments) but with enough power and torque to keep me happy. What tuning style best describes this car (ex. Euro, Bling, OEMplus, street racer, auto crosser)? OEMplus, I guess. Who helped you build this car? Rothlin Motorsport in Kerns for Sportec modifications and the people from swissMK5GTI team. What makes your car special? It’s quite a rarity, it’s white and seriously fast. What is your favorite part/feature/function? The turbo! Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car? No one in particular. I knew I wanted my car to look almost stock with subtle exterior modifications and a powerful engine. What don’t you like about this car? It’s FWD. What was your biggest obstacle in building this car? Getting it street legal. How did you overcome the issue? Don’t ask me, ask the guys at Roethlin Motorsport… What would you change if you could? Nothing to change, just a few things to add. On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project? Around 8, there’s always room for improvement, but I am really happy with the car right now. What would you do to the car if money were no object? A big brake kit, fully adjustable coilovers, LSD and race seats. Who has been your biggest critic of this project? Me. What do your family and friends say about this car? My dad thinks I’m crazy for spending my money on it, but he still loves it like everybody else. What is your most memorable/humorous/embarrassing moment with this car? After purchasing the car, I had a 300 km drive back home. On the autobahn, I got thumbs up from a biker on a Harley Davidson and I wasn’t expecting it at all. Has this car competed in any events? Results? No, not yet. What is your favorite place to drive this car? Autobahn and twisty roads. What is your ideal day with this car? A sunny day with not much traffic. Who gets to drive this car? Me, myself and I. If your car had a motto, what would it be? If it ain’t white, it ain’t right! (No offense.) If you had to name your car, what would you name it? It’s official, her name is “Mon petit lapin blanc,” which means “my little white rabbit.” What was your previous project? 2002 MKIV R32. What is your next project? 1986 MK2 GTI 16v (KR engine).
