Event Coverage: 2005 East Coast R32 Get Together

Saturday, April 23rd and Sunday, April 24th, 2005 – Westminster, Maryland

Hosted by EIP Tuning, the first East Coast R32 GTG turned out to be a great success. Reminiscent of Waterfest ’04, the rain paid a visit on both days, but fortunately was not around for very long. Regrettably, the forecast scared some owners into not going to the event, which allowed for the West Coast to slightly outnumber us at their GTG, that took place April 10.

R32 owners came to the event from all over the East Coast; from Florida to Massachusetts, and as far west as Illinois. The caravan from the west even ran into snow (SoCal, take note – this is when a cold, white, powdery substance falls from the sky) on the drive over to Maryland. On Saturday, there were nearly 100 R32s at the event, which is the largest gathering of R32s on the East Coast to date.

North American Motorsports had a booth at the event and had specials on Neuspeed and VF-Engineering products. Furthermore, EIP had 20% discounts on all their products for the weekend and offered free installs on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event started at 9:00 AM on Saturday, April 23rd, and at that time, EIP began a Stage I Turbo install on an otherwise stock R32. The install was finished by 5:00 PM that day, and put on the dyno at noon on Sunday. The result was an increase of 110 hp and 80 lb-ft of torque at the front wheels. Other events included welding seminars, 02M transmission and haldex demonstrations, a forced induction question and answer session, raffles, and a dyno demonstration of the 600+ hp Stage IV Turbo R32 (which could most likely be heard as far away as Baltimore).

The event was very laid back, and everyone socialized with each other, which was nice to see given the diverse demographic nature of R32 owners present. Plans are in motion to turn this into an annual event, so stay tuned to see the East Coast show up the West Coast next time.
