Essen, Germany – Held indoors at Messe Essen and boasting official presence from 27 different brands, Techno Classica could be considered a Concours for the auto industry. In addition to manufacturer displays, Techno Classica is also a great place to buy and sell classic cars. This year, organizers state that more than 2,500 classic automobiles are available for purchase during the event at the numerous auctions taking place.
Like all major industry events, Techno Classica includes a round of media days, professional days and public days. When this year’s event ends, organizers estimate that over 190,000 visitors will have walked through the display halls. European contributor Roger Mecking was one of those visitors, and sent us some of the more interesting Volkswagen finds of the event.
Volkswagen’s official presence was found in Hall 7.0, and focused primarily on sporty Beetle models and celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Golf with vehicles from Volkswagen Classic. Many other Volkswagens were spotted throughout the show, Volkswagen owners’ clubs showing member’s vehicles in Hall 8.1.
Sporty Beetle models displayed by Volkswagen included the E-Bugster which debuted in 2012 sporting a fully electric drivetrain, and the Beetle RSi along with other historically significant versions of the icon.
The 25th edition of Techno Classica was also its largest yet, with 1,250 exhibitors from 30 countries and 200 classic car clubs displaying. With that many vendors, OEM support and such a wide array of display vehicles, Techno Classica is quite simply a must attend event for any car enthusiast.
