Koni introduces FSD, the first no-compromise shock absorber in the world. A revolutionary new technique which combines the benefits of firm and comfortable suspension in a single perfect shock absorber. Firm for sporty driving on even road surfaces. Comfortable for a smooth ride on uneven road surfaces.
Realizing the seemingly impossible!
Two characteristics that seemed diametrically- opposed, proved to be a source of inspiration for specialists from KONI. Following lengthy development and testing, the ultimate solution was reached: KONI FSD – Frequency Selective Damping.
A revolutionary new technique whereby the benefits of both types of ride characteristics are combined in one perfect shock absorber. Banishing the disadvantages of the past. FSD shock absorbers; a smart suspension system adjusting automatically to road conditions as well as driving style. And all of this in a fraction of a second. FSD guarantees greater stability, greater control and thus greater driving pleasure.
KONI reconfirms with the FSD innovation a leading position as innovative supplier of high-quality shock absorber products.
“ I am convinced that they help lift the Gallardo’s ride/handling to a new level.”, were the very own words of Mr. Ceccarani, Technical Director of Lamborghini, describing the effect of the FSD technology, being original equipment on all Lamborghini Gallardos.
What you see is a special valve, which is able to control an oil flow parallel to the one going through the piston. The FSD feature, giving a rise in damping force almost linear to the time that the piston is moving in one direction, closes this parallel oil flow.

FSD is the abbreviation of Frequency Selective Damping. It is the latest technology of KONI, specifically designed to combine the ultimate in comfort and road-holding.
When the emphasis of a car’s performance is on the best possible road-holding, a lack in ride comfort is an automatic consequence when using conventional shock absorbers. Not so with the KONI FSD technology! The groundbreaking FSD technology has been designed and patented by KONI to end the compromise between comfort and road-holding. This new feature can be used as an integrated part of the hydraulic valving system inside the damper. Consequently no additional cables, sensors, or any other electronic devices are needed to operate this system. It operates fully hydraulic and frequency selective and is therefore an economical and effective solution to improving a car’s handling. It will give Ride and Handling Engineers a constructive, additional variable in fine-tuning the car’s behaviour.
Basically, comfort and handling can be split in two different frequency areas:
› For comfort, with the suspension moving in a high frequency area (± 10 Hz), asking for low damping forces.
› For handling, with the suspension moving in a low frequency area (± 1 Hz), asking for high damping forces.
If you are able to change the damping force level in relation to the frequency of the movement, you create the possibility to solve the conflict in terms of comfort and handling ever present in conventional dampers.
The KONI FSD technology does just that!
Advantages of FSD
› Ends the compromise between comfort and handling
› Can be integrated in conventional damper layouts
› No need for sensors, cables, or other electronic devices
› Creates an additional variable in fine-tuning the car’s behaviour
› Quick and easy to develop for existing suspensions
› Damper cost efficient
This is not designed for lowered vehicles. The valve must have time to work. This is designed for the guy who wants to maintain stock height with an improved sport suspension feel.
