This year's Los Angeles Auto Show was a monumental event for the Volkswagen Group, as nearly every brand under their umbrella had a global debut on press day.  Volkswagen debuted the unobtanium Golf R SportWagen and Golf SportWagen HyMotion, along with the US debuts of the GTI Roadster and Golf R400 concepts.  Audi brought their 'prologue' concept and A7 h-tron, giving the media a clear view into the manufacturer's future in regard to styling and alternative drivetrain technologies.  Bentley and Porsche brought out new vehicles as well, with the Stuttgart-based sportscar brand debuting new GTS models, and Crew showing their Grand Convertible, a car which could be best described by its name.

The introduction of the Golf R SportWagen resonated the loudest on social media, in our forums and at our offices.  The 296hp SportWagen had been something we anxiously awaited official word on ever since the first spy photos hit our desks.  Made possible by the flexibility of Volkswagen's MQB architecture, the Golf R SportWagen is the car we'd all love to see replace minivans and SUVs around the globe, but Volkswagen isn't quite sure if they will let us have it just yet.  Still, we'll be keeping our fingers crossed.

Ever-tightening emissions regulations have pushed manufacturers to look outside the box when it comes to minimizing consumption figures on new models.  Volkswagen's HyMotion is just that- utilizing a "cold combustion" of Hydrogen and Oxygen to power an electric motor with a range of 310 miles.  Debuting on a Golf SportWagen and currently being tested on a Passat, the HyMotion system was carefully designed to not be intrusive within the cabin of the vehicle and can be fully refilled in just three minutes.
