- Two very fuel-efficient engine versions for the successful models from Hannover
The very fuel-efficient BlueMotion versions of the Transporter and Multivan will now be offered with a second, more powerful engine version. With the 103-kW / 140-PS engine, the family van consumes just 6.4 litres of fuel per 100 km, while the new Transporter BlueMotion consumes just 6.2 litres per 100 km.
Transporter BlueMotion and Multivan BlueMotion with 84 kW / 114 PS are among the most fuel-efficient vehicles in their class. Now, a second and more powerful fuel-saving version is being added to the two popular models.
These new BlueMotion models have a 2.0-litre TDI engine with 103 kW / 140 PS. Thanks to its maximum torque of 340 Newton metres, which is available over a speed range from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm, this engine – together with the standard six-speed gearbox – delivers good driving performance, even with a full payload (maximum allowable gross weight is 2.9 metric tonnes).
Fuel consumption of the Transporter BlueMotion with 103 kW is just 6.2 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres, which equates to CO2 emissions of 164 g/km. Compared to the conventional version with the same power of 103 kW, this independent BlueMotion model saves up to 1.2 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres – a crucial advantage in total cost of ownership without imposing any limitations on dynamic performance or payload.
Fuel consumption values of the five-seat Multivan BlueMotion with 103 kW are similar: its combined fuel consumption of 6.4 litres and CO2 emissions of 169 g/km are very low (up to 1.1 litres less fuel than in the 103 kW standard version) for a van that offers ample space and travel comfort, and this has a positive effect on vacation funds.
The introduction of the second engine version shows once again how consistent implementation of BlueMotion Technologies can even make the successful T model series vehicles, which have high utility and recreational value, very fuel efficient. The combination of a stop-start system, regenerative braking, tyres with very low rolling resistance, modified engine management and aerodynamic modifications (lower ride height) leads to significant reductions in fuel consumption and thereby to lower cost of ownership as well as longer driving range. These are important criteria, especially for the Transporter and the Multivan – for both commercial and individual buyers.
The price of the Transporter BlueMotion is 28,625 euros (without VAT), and the price of the related Multivan BlueMotion is listed at 39,240.25 euros (including VAT).
