For the second consecutive year, Volkswagen has been given the accolade of ‘Best Diesel Range’ by Fleet World magazine, reinforcing the manufacturer’s commitment to diesel.
The award, presented yesterday at a special ceremony at the RAC Club on Pall Mall in London, recognises Volkswagen’s strong commitment to diesel technology, and its wide range of diesel vehicles.
The awards were judged by a panel of experts representing the leasing industry, fleet managers, residual value guides and Fleet World’s editorial team.
Fleet industry consultant and former IBM Fleet Manager, George Emmerson said: ‘When you look at the strength in depth of Volkswagen’s diesel range it’s not hard to see how the judges reached their decision. From the super-frugal Lupo 1.4 TDI to the mighty 5.0-litre V10 in the Phaeton, Volkswagen has a diesel option for every model in the range and when CO2 emissions are taken into account, that’s a mighty strong proposition for fleets.’
Fleet World editor, Ross Durkin, commented: ‘We’ve never failed to be impressed by a Volkswagen diesel and countless group tests over the years have confirmed the company’s position at the top of the diesel league table. As well as being fuel-efficient they offer tremendous performance and refinement and these qualities have made them firm favourites with user-choosers and finance directors alike.’
In 2003, 46 per cent of all Volkswagen cars were diesel-powered; though in the fleet market, 60 per cent of Volkswagens sold were diesel models.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also celebrated a double success at the Commercial Fleet World honours ceremony, claiming both the Safety Award and the Best New Van title for its new Transporter.
