The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand handed over 2.79 (January-June 2011: 2.53; +10.2 percent) million vehicles to customers worldwide in the first half of this year. The brand also announced an increase for the month of June, when it delivered 498,600 (June 2011: 438,400; +13.7 percent) units. “The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand developed well in the first half of the year despite the difficult situation in Western Europe. However, there is still considerable uncertainty in Europe which will continue into the second half of the year” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said in Wolfsburg in Tuesday.

In spite of the difficult situation on markets in Southern Europe, Volkswagen Passenger Cars grew deliveries on the overall European market in the first six months to 907,900 (881,000; +3.1 percent) units. While the number of vehicles delivered in Western Europe (excluding Germany) fell slightly to 464,300 (487,100; -4.7 percent), deliveries in Central and Eastern Europe rose by a substantial 45.2 percent to 134,000 (92,300) vehicles. Deliveries in Russia continued to develop at a high level, totaling 81,100 (45,500; +78.1 percent) units. In the home market of Germany, Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 309,700 (301,700; +2.6 percent) vehicles to customers.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand continued to grow outside Europe. In the Asia-Pacific region, the brand increased deliveries by 15.0 percent in the period to June, handing over 1.09 (0.95) million vehicles to customers. 982,600 (852,800; +15.2 percent) units were delivered in China (incl. Hong Kong), the region’s largest single market, during the same period. The brand also developed well on the American continent. Deliveries by Volkswagen Passenger Cars in the North America region grew 24.2 percent to 295,300 (237,700) vehicles, of which 208,700 (154,100; +35.4 percent) models were handed over to customers in the United States. In the South America region, deliveries increased by 4.0 percent to 390,900 (375,800) units.
