Jay Pichardo (otherwise known as “Ask a VW Sales Guy”) from Southern Volkswagen – Greenbrier, a Volkswagen dealer, has leaked information on a forthcoming GTI Drivers Edition. 2013 will be the last year that the Mk6 GTI will be offered and VW is apparently putting together a special “Drivers Edition” model as a final sendoff.
Basically an Autobahn package car with 18″ Laguna wheels, golf-ball shift knob, red stitched GTI mats and a few other odds and ends like standard HID headlamps and more, the Drivers Edition (or DE as previous versions were known) will only be available in Candy White, Carbon Steel and Deep Black. There will only be 3000 units available according to Jay’s website, so if you want one, better snap it up. Jay has more information on his website: http://askavwsalesguy.com/blog/2012/12/12/vw-resurrects-the-drivers-edition-gti.html
We’ll have to wait for the official press release from Volkswagen of America to know pricing, availability and more. We suspect that dealers were given the information early for ordering purposes, but we’re not sure if that information was intended for public consumption. Thanks to Jay, you now know!
