Prepare to get your dander up, as Carfection’s Alex Goy tests the new GTI Performance that’s complete with all kinds of Euro-only goodies.

The two-door (which we don’t get here) Mk7.5 (which we don’t quite have yet) Golf GTI (which we do get!) Performance (which we don’t get here anymore), according to Goy, “is good.”

That may not sound like deafening praise, but he is comparing it to the regular GTI, which is already great. So the main question is why buy the Performance instead?

Goy argues that the Performance isn’t necessary, so to buy it, you have to want it. But with bigger brakes, more power, and everything else that makes the GTI a great car, there’s no reason not to buy the Performance apart from saving a few bucks or an accident of geography.

“It’s a bit more go in a friendly good to drive package,” says Goy.
