NAIAS 2016: College for Creative Studies Displays Futuristic Volkswagen Concept

We all know that auto shows are all about concept cars and new reveals, but sometimes the best ones come from unexpected places.  At this year’s North American International Auto Show, College for Creative Studies student Darby Barber showed her extremely impressive Volkswagen R50 concept (yes, we know the R50 is already a hopped-up Touareg), an extremely ambitious take on how she envisions Volkswagens of the future will look.

“Centered around those who refuse to conform” in a futuristic and highly individualistic society, the R50 is an extremely low-slung coupe with clear motorsport influence.  Featuring a mid-mounted powerplant, Barber says that this Volkswagen is more about outright performance than efficiency, although we’d venture to guess it’ll still be quite frugal.
