SEMA 2014: H&R Volkswagen Golf 7 Sportwagen Share Comments Thread (2) There’s a coy side to Roland Graef, head of H&R suspensions in the U.S. The guy’s got probably the best display location at the gargantuan SEMA Show and, on top of that, he always has cars built from unobtainium… like this Golf 7 Sportwagen. Whereas the outgoing Jetta Sportwagen was a must-have due to its utility, the new Sportwagen (now dubbed Golf) comes off with a more cohesive look… as if it was meant to be a wagon all along. The car is downright hot. No doubt it’ll be a very popular tuning platform, and no doubt Roland saw that upcoming trend and wanted to get out ahead of it. Of course, if this is an H&R display car then you can bet it’ll be laden with H&R product. It is, and it’s also all the better for it. First up came a set of H&R Street Performance Coilovers made specifically for the car’s new MQB chassis. The setup is adjusted to drop the Sportwagen 2.3-inches up front and 2.0-inches in the rear. The car also received a set of Sport Sway Bars (25mm in the rear) to help improve turn-in. For rolling alloy, Roland turned to the very familiar Rotiform concave BLQ in forged 3-piece form and 19-inch diameter. These are finished with a brushed look and then hit with a double matte tinted clear coat to finish off the look. They’re also shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires in 225 35 ZR 19. For improved stopping power, the H&R team fitted Brembo’s High Performance GT system. This means lightweight 328 mm (12.9-inch) 2-piece rotors, lowering the unsprung weight at all four corners. The aluminum bell also gets a special ceramic silver finish for great looks, while Woodridge stainless steel brake lines help improve performance and feel of the upgraded braking system. Finally, this is a wagon after all, so the car was also fitted with a comprehensive roof rack system. For this, Roland turned to Volkswagen and their line of Volkswagen Genuine Accessories rack hardware just to make sure everything had that factory fitment. Specifications.
