Paris Spotlight: Polo GTI Share Comments The automotive grass is always greener in Europe, isn’t it? We can now add the new Polo GTI to the list of lustworthy transportation that the North American market won’t get, which is a shame, because it looks like a segment leader. The Polo GTI is powered by a 1.8 TFSI producing roughly 190hp and 236ft-lbs tq, which is good for 0-60 times in the mid 6 second range and offered with either a 7-speed DSG gearbox or a proper 6 speed manual. In true GTI fashion, there are GTI logos throughout, red grille trim and a sports steering wheel among a host of other performance and aesthetic touches. For those who want an even sportier Polo GTI, Volkswagen will offer the ‘Sport Performance Kit’, which includes their new electromechanical power steering rack, improved acceleration pedal responsiveness and greater interior engine noise courtesy of the sound actuator, all activated through the car’s console-mounted ‘Sport’ button. On the bright side, the Golf GTI is arguably better than ever, and includes nearly everything on the Polo. The only thing you’re missing out on is size. Not to say that it we wouldn’t love to have one, but the two-door Golf GTI’s size would likely be a better option for us. Check out more from Volkswagen in Paris, right here.
