Double Podium for Volkswagen at Washington DC Rallycross

Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross’s Scott Speed cruised to a near perfect victory this weekend, while his teammate Tanner Foust fought unbelievably hard for every one of the points he earned by coming home in third place at this weekend’s Washington DC Rallycross.

Both VARX drivers performed well all weekend, earning themselves spots on the front row of the starting grid in this weekend’s Rallycross.

After the first lap shuffle, Speed was in first place and Foust in fourth. Foust was not satisfied with his position, though, and started his charge for a spot on the podium.

Foust hounded third-place Brian Deegan for his position the whole race, and eventually overcooked it, spinning off the track. His spin didn’t even cost him a position, though, as he completed the 360 and set off again chasing  Deegan.

Eventually, the unyielding Foust caught the Ford and finally, on the last lap, made his move, passing Deegan and earning himself the third spot on the podium.

“Honestly, third place feels like a win today,” said Foust on the podium. “This is a scary track when you’re running by yourself, but right behind another car, blinded with mud, is a whole different story.”

Thanks to his Gilles Villeneuve-like performance, Foust holds on to first place in the driver’s championship, but after two straight victories, Speed has nearly caught up. After Washington DC, Foust has 350 points and Speed has 344. Their nearest competition is Steve Arpin with 315.

The two Beetles will be fighting for the lead again in Atlantic City on August 28.
