10 V 10: The R8 Takes on the Lexus LFA Share Comments It’s the battle of the V10s, with an Audi R8 taking on the fearsome Lexus LFA. Although the R8 is a monster, the LFA has been called one of the best cars ever by no less an authority than Jeremy Clarkson. The race is a good one, the LFA’s 4.8-liter V10 makes 560 hp and 355 lb-ft of torque. At 1,480 kg, though, it’s a lot lighter than the R8. At 1480 kg to the Audi’s 1,770, the LFA makes 378 hp per metric tonne, whereas the R8 makes just 350 hp/tonne. Thanks to AWD, though, the R8 gets to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds. By comparison, the LFA’s rear wheels struggle to get it down in less than 3.8 seconds. So it’s an interesting comparison, is what we’re saying. But the concerted efforts of torque, packaging, and drivetrain layout all help the R8 Kind of walk away with this one. Even though the LFA got a better launch, the R8 still catches it and passes it before the finish line. With a better launch, it might be even easier. Still, a fun, sonorous race.
