KTM Unveils Updated, TT-I5-Powered X-Bow GTX

The list of new cars on sale today with 5 cylinders is pretty short but it’s growing by one. The KTM X-Bow GTX uses Audi’s venerable 2.5-liter I5 and squeezes 600 hp out of it.

That doesn’t mean that Audi just wasn’t trying when it put the engine in your TTRS/RS3, though. You won’t get dusted at the lights because the X-Bow GTX was designed to race in the SRO GT2 racing class.

Tipping the scales at just 2,200 lbs, it’s bound to be a pretty swell track weapon. But KTM’s decision to race in the GT2 class means it will be competing directly against Audi.

Not only with the X-Bow GTX race against the R8 GT2, it will also race against the Porsche GT2 RS Clubsport. That will be stern competition, indeed, but despite having twice as many cylinders (and arguably twice as much engine) the R8 GT2 only 30 more hp than the KTM.

It’ll be interesting, then, to see how the Austrians compete against their German engine-supplier.
