Tired of standard Westfalia campers and Vanagon conversions? Want the simplicity of an aircooled VW, but with quite a bit more space? Then today's Find Of The Day could be perfect for you. This 1974 PaCoMobil caravana es hecho en Mexico and it's begging to hit the open road.

If you haven't heard, camper sales have gone through the roof. Thanks to the COVID crisis, people want to get out and see the country, but need to have control over their surroundings. So instead of taking chances with flights and hotels, a self-contained mobile domicile is a great option for many. And this utterly unique camper will certainly turn heads.

To start, this is a rare model, as only 50 versions of the PaCoMobil were built in Mexico. It looks a bit like the campers that sit in the bed of a pickup truck, but mounted to the middle of the Volkswagen body. The rear "clip" of the van (Did it start as a van? Could it have been a single-cab pickup?) in intact and 100% stock. Well, except for the repositioned air vent that moved from the D-pillar to the rear quarter panel, probably to help with cooling. It's definitely different.

Why buy this PaCoMobil over, say, a pop-top Westie? Room, for one thing. While you can sleep four people in a standard VW camper, the accommodations are quite snug. This '74 appears to have a dining table that converts to a bed, plus there's the bunk space above the cab. The higher ro of also allows you to stand inside the camper without having to wrestle with a raisable roof. And the whole thing is simple; engage the parking brake and you're camping.

This bay-window camper also comes with a fridge, a sink, and (not at all outdoorsy) "crystal chandelier." The interior design is not exactly outdoorsy; the word "glamping" comes to mind.

So if you're looking to live the #caravanavida (#camperlife in probably terrible Spanish), then this 1974 PaCoMobile may be just the vehicle for you. It's located in Austin, Texas, and you can see more info on the bringatrailer.com no-reserve auction that ends this Friday at 2 pm.
