Forum Friday: Candy White Track Terror

Happy Friday everyone! To celebrate the second five-day work week this year, we’ve found a great thread for our Forum Friday series. It’s a tricked-out and track-ready MKVI Golf R.

The successor to the amazing R32 Golfs, the MKVI Golf R was the first all-wheel-drive performance hatch to feature a four-cylinder turbocharged engine and not naturally-aspirated VR6 powerplants. At first, enthusiasts scoffed at the “lesser” motor, but despite being down on down-low grunt and melodious noises, the direct-injection four put less weight over the front wheels, which improved handling, and it allowed more engine tuning. And owners wasted no time modifying these fast little cars.

vwvortex member Flieger updated his 2012 Stage 3 Golf R from stem to stern. His nearly 7-year-old build thread documents the car’s transformation. In the first post alone Flieger lists all the modifications done up to February of last year. Spoiler alert: the list is very long. In it you’ll see all the big names: APR, RacingLine, Forge Motorsport, Stoptech, and TyrolSport just to name a few. This is one serious build.

But the one thing you’ll notice right off the bat; this Candy White Golf R is clean. With everything he’s poured into this car, there had to be an urge to slap on spoilers and stickers. Nope. He went the opposite direction: removed badges kept everything spartan, and sourced some cool Euro bits like the OEM black headlights. And the Alcantara-accented interior is incredible too.

Check out Flieger’s 32-page (!) thread to see everything he’s done to the car. It’s a great way to end this long work week.
