Forum Friday: ‘Ello Gov’na!

Cars engineered and built in Great Britain aren’t known for their reliability. Sure some smashing little roadsters and heavy-duty SUVs have come out of their factories, but sooner rather than later, they’re in the shop for something.

There is one thing the Brits have gotten right when it comes to cars; a certain shade of green. It’s so iconic, this color has its country of origin right in its name: British Racing Green. And today our feature car, a German car, wears it very well.

Now you’re probably going “WAIT! You can get a Golf R in British Racing Green!?” Well, you can. But only if you live in Canada. While VW offered the Spektrum program in the United States a while back, it was a one-time thing, but those in upper North America can custom-order Golf R’s at any time. If there ever was a reason to move, this might be it.

Back in late 2017, VWvortex member ipop07 ordered his 2018 Golf R, and started a thread in our forums to document changes. He fully admits it’s a slow-progress thread for a fast car. But as you page through it, you’ll see his R has gone through a number of changes.

You see, this ’18 R isn’t just ipop’s daily driver, he also tracks the car regularly. And from his custom license plate, he’s an engineer by trade, so any mods lean towards making the car perform better and less for appearance.

So if you have some time to kill, take a stroll through his thread. The pics alone will make you say “‘Ello gov’na!” while you tip your invisible top hat.
