Guys! Bentley Wants to Go to Pikes Peak in a Bentayga!

Bentley, for all its luxurious ambitions, actually has quite the motorsports history. Still, though, taking a W12 Bentayga up Pikes Peak is something else.

But that’s just what Bentley intends on doing and if you’re looking to prove that your super SUV is the best super SUV, it, frankly, isn’t that crazy.

“Since its launch, the Bentayga has set the luxury SUV benchmark with its unique combination of bespoke British craftsmanship, performance and grand touring ability,” said motorsport exec, Brian Gush. “We hope to set another benchmark at the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb by conquering the most demanding mountain road course in the world.”

Nobody doubts that the Bentayga is luxurious, but even though it was the fastest production SUV on earth when it first hit the scene, I’m not sure anyone thinks of it as all that sporty.

The Bentayga is a little like a bear. Doesn’t matter how many times I’m told that a bear can run up to 30 mph, its shape prevents me from really believing it in my heart.

And yet, with 6.0-liter W12 churning out 600 hp, the stock Bentayga can hit 60 in just 4 seconds and pull 0.85 G on the skidpad, which is roughly the same as a BMW Z3. And, presumably, the Bentley Pikes Peak car will only be better.

The Bentayga will be joined by VW and its previously announced electric record-chaser. The Bentley is expected to climb the mountain on June 24. Until then, enjoy this video of James May, Kris Meeks, and a Bentley Continental taking on a British rally stage.
