The New Jetta GLI Will Debut This Week Share Comments The wait is almost over! The 2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI will debut shortly, with the German automaker set to debut the somewhat hot four-door at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show later this week. VW released a new teaser for the new Jetta GLI on its Facebook page this week to drum up hype for the debut. The short clip doesn’t give us much to work with, but it at least provides us with a glimpse at the GLI’s familiar lipstick red grille accent and GLI grille badge. Powering the new Jetta GLI will be the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine found in the current MK7 Golf GTI. That means the GLI is set gain quite a bit of power, with the 2.0-liter expected to make the same 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque in the sedan as it does in the hatch. Both six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG transmissions will be available. The Golf GTI’s front limited slip differential should be on the table too, but it will likely be optional. The new Jetta GLI is also expected to forego the Jetta’s rear torsion beam suspension in favor of an independent setup more closely related to the Golf GTI’s rear suspension assembly. The interior will gain some GTI/GLI exclusive equipment too, such as tartan plaid seats, a sport steering wheel, GLI floor mats and paddle shifters or a GLI gear knob depending on the transmission. Check back for all the official details on the new Jetta GLI once they become available later this week.
