On Location: Stockholm, Sweden

While in Sweden last week for the XC90 reveal on behalf of our sister site Swedespeed, I had some time to wander around town to take in the sights and sounds of the nation’s capital, and stop by Volkswagen’s Stockholm showroom.  As an American traveling abroad for the first time, I made a point to take pictures of the city’s architecture as well as many of the more interesting offerings seen in town.  Although I wasn’t able to geteverything cool that I spotted during my stay, I did get most of the better stuff.  Let’s get started.

Convieniently located directly across the street from my hotel was Volkswagen’s Stockholm showroom, housing an XL1, a Golf Sportvan and an e-Golf.  Quite understandably, the XL1 was by far and away the most striking of the trio.  I can only imagine what one looks like in traffic.

Sitting quietly on one of Stockholm’s side streets was this Touareg R50.  For those unfamiliar, the R50 is powered by a ten cylinder diesel making a massive 345hp and 627 ft-lbs of torque to go along with a host of other performance and aesthetic enhancements.

It was only a matter of time until we spotted the current object of all of our affection- the new Scirocco.  We were even more pleased that this particular one was a Scirocco R, the highest powered offering.  After seeing one in the flesh, we still want it.  Are you listening Volkswagen?

While wandering around one of the older sections of Stockholm, I came across this Cross Touran.  To a certain extent, this picture sums up the atmosphere in Stockholm- being extremely modern while embracing its rich history.  Since Sweden was largely unaffected by the two World Wars, the city’s buildings bear no scars or signs of outside aggression which serves to amplify the sense of history while walking the streets.  If you’re interested in that sort of thing, I highly recommend Stockholm as a must-see destination.
