Photographer Gets Creative Treadmill and Spray Bottle for Huracan Shoot

We’re all struggling with how to actually do our jobs in quarantine, but some of us are better at MacGyvering than others. Automotive photographer Kunar Kelkar is one of those people.

The photographer’s Instagram feed is full of beautiful hypercars in gorgeous locations. One rain shot stands out in particular as full of drama, though.

How did he do it? With a toy car, a treadmill, a water bottle, and some lights.

At first glance, the photos really do look like something out of a magazine shoot. And to be fair, that makes sense because Kunar Kelkar, who runs the feed, is a professional photographer. Best of all, according to Kelkar the whole things was captured in camera.

“All elements are captured in camera. A spray bottle was used for rain,” he writes on his Instagram feed. “Two @lumecube lights along with two @profotoglobal B10s, a @thepixelstick and a Yongnuo YN360 were used to light the scene. The car was held in place on the treadmill with the use of a shoelace. The boundary fence was a ping pong table net.”

The shoot was the result of boredom during the COVID-19 lockdown. Kelkar writes that he and Kanika Sood, another photographer who runs the @womanbehindthewheel instagram feed, were supposed to be working in Europe right now, but were forced to cancel their trip as a result of the pandemic.

“[Sood] and I were supposed to be in Europe for a few projects and we were looking forward to getting a Lamborghini in front of our lens, but due to the running pandemic we have had to figure new ways to do what we love!”
