Ratty Rescue: (MK)2 + (VR)6 = 4 (FUN)

If you liked this week’s Find Of The Day; a MK2 GTI stuffed full of power, then today’s Ratty Rescue should be right up your alley. This ’86 GTI has a horsepower enhancement but in the form of extra cylinders. And it’s looking for a new owner.

What can we say that hasn’t been already said about lightweight second-gen VWs fitted with hi-po powerplants? They have to be loads of fun. And with six cylinders of grunt under the hood, this little GTI will not only put down some serious numbers (at the track of course) but will sound sweet as hell doing it.

There’s not a lot of detail in the ads. VWVortex member railzz bought this car pre-swapped. From the for-sale thread in our classifieds, it states the engine and subframe came from a Passat. The front brakes are from a Corrado G60, and the rears came off a ’91 GTI. The car rides on WRD coilovers, and there are MK4 GTI 5-lug alloy wheels filling the wheel wells.

In the Craigslist ad for the car, it mentions Corrado leather seats and Euro bumpers. There’s also a photo of a trunk load of spare parts. Additionally, we’ve spotted smoked single-round Euro headlights and a (rare, we think) 4-spoke Italvolanti steering wheel.

So if you’re looking for a power-packed hatchback, this may be the car for you. Take a look at the ad in our classifieds, or check out the craigslist ad. This 1986 GTI VR6 is in Memphis, Tennessee.
