It’s the time of year when red and green are all around us. Everywhere you turn there’s decorations strung up for the holiday season. Today’s Ratty Rescue can add a bit more red to your garage for just a little green.

In addition to sleigh bells, stockings, and twinkling lights, Sciroccos are popping up all over the place. There’s more than 15 for sale on thesamba.com, and we’ve seen some pop up in craigslist searches as well. ‘Tis the Scirocco season.

This 1987 Scirocco 16V is rather rough around the edges, but it’s a driver: a huge plus. The car runs, shifts, and stops. The engine was rebuilt around 110K, but total mileage is not mentioned in the ad. If you’re looking for a project car, it’s nice to find one you can take out on the road from day one. That means you only have to focus on the cosmetics. And with this car, there’s quite a bit that needs work.

The seller states this was a daily driver and the exterior condition shows it. To start, the front driver side fender, as well as the bumper, will need to be replaced. The hood does not match the car and has added hood pins. The clearcoat is peeling. Some body trim is missing. Inside, the seats show typical bolster wear. There are some cracks in the dash. And the sunroof no longer opens.

But not all is bad on this little red ‘Rocco. The car has no rust. The heat works. It has decent tires and a new-ish stereo. Did we mention it’s a solid runner? Lastly, and the most notable feature of the car: its price. You can park this car in your driveway for only $800.

So if you’re looking for a present for yourself, this little red sleigh may be an option. You can read more about this 1987 Scirocco 16V on thesamba.com. The car is in Hamilton Ohio.
