Ratty Rescue: Charity Case GTI VR6 for a Great Charity – But Act Fast!

This is turning out to be a colorful week. Earlier we had a Mulberry GTI VR6, and today we bring a Ginster Yellow GTI VR6. It’s only a bit ratty, but it needs to be rescued. Don’t wait to bid on it: the no reserve auction ends Wednesday at 2:45 PM EST! Proceeds from the sale go to www.carsforprostatecancer.org, so you’ll not only be rescuing a great little car, you’ll also be helping a great charity.

We’ll keep this one quick, so you can get to bidding. This is a 1998 GTI VR6 finished in eye-searing Ginster Yellow paint. It has 117,000 miles on the odometer and is in running condition. There’s no rust, the interior is complete, there’s an aftermarket stereo, and a proper golf ball shift knob. All in all, it’s a perfect car for a restoration.

The bad? We might be exaggerating saying it’s a charity case (it’s not), but it made for a good title, so we’re sticking with it. Outside there’s some dents and dings, some sagging door trim, and some missing “reflectors” between the foglights and the turn signals. Inside there’s wear on the driver’s upper bolster. The leather is peeling/torn on the steering wheel. The glovebox latch is busted. And the rear cargo cover may be damaged.

Mechanically, all that’s mentioned is the worn suspension. We’d have that sorted out before, say, buying it and driving cross-country like we’re dreaming of doing.

But all that’s really nothing. This is a complete car. A complete VR6 car. And as of this writing, at 9:15 PM EST on Tuesday night, the current bid is $1600. It’s sure to go up throughout the day Wednesday, so watch the eBay ad closely. Also, there are specific rules for bidding, so make sure you read the full ad. This 1998 Ginster GTI is in Orange, California.
