Recommended Reading: Patina Volkswagens by Mark Walker Share Comments It’s not often we assign homework here at VW Vortex, but a new coffee table book from Veloce publishing has caught our eye. Patina Volkswagen does, as the Brits who wrote it might say, what it says on the tin. Full of pictures of rusty, unpainted, or otherwise patinated Volkswagens, the book takes you on a journey through the history of the style. “As a keen follower of the International VW scene I have published many books on VW buying advice, VW tuning, VW restoration, and VW history, but now I’m delighted to add a book on Patina VWs as I’ve noticed the growing interest in these characterful vehicles,” says Rod Gainer, publisher at Veloce. “Mark [Walker] has done a great job in collecting images of so many Patina VWs for this book, so I hope it will be a huge success for him and Veloce.” Previous ImageNext ImagePreviousNextView Large The book features everything from the greatest modified cars, to the best-preserved ones, to celebrity-owned lust machines. Born near Portsmouth in the south of the UK, Mark Walker bought his first VW before he could drive it and has owned more than 100 since then. Over the years, he has owned both The Bus Station and Vintage Werks, which were heavily involved in importing VWs (among other things) and restoring them. The cars that came out of those shops have graced the covers of numerous magazines and Mark himself wrote for Volksworld. The 160-page hardback book can be purchased now, for $50 US or $65 Canadian.
