SEAT Introduces its Most Powerful Street Car Ever

The Leon is finally getting as much power as Europe’s Golf R, with a new model appropriately called the Cupra R.

This special edition Leon makes 310 hp, 10 more than the previously most powerful Leon. Unfortunately, unlike the Golf, the Leon will be limited to just 799 examples, because apparently, Spaniards have the same ideas about special editions as Italians do.

And the Leon Cupra R comes with more than just a few extra horses. It also features a unique color, Matte Grey (though it’s also available in Midnight Black and Pyrenees Grey), and some chassis fettling.

The engineers in Barcelona have given the Leon Cupra R a new exhaust system, improved Brembo brakes, a tweaked version of the Dynamic Chassis Control System, and have changed camber up front.

That all will come in handy because unlike the Golf R, only the Cupra R’s front wheels are powered. But out and out speed seems to have taken a back seat to dynamics here since SEAT will only offer the full 310 hp to buyers who opt for the six-speed manual.

The most powerful street car ever produced by SEAT will premiere next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show along with its next SUV and a natural gas powered Ibiza.
