Is Tanner Foust Building an Atlas GTI for SEMA?

Fresh off a victory at the Red Bull GRC race in LA, Tanner Foust is already working on his next crazy VW.

Unlike his Beetle, though, we know very little about this car except that it’s an Atlas, that it will have flared wheel arches, and that it will have tartan seats.

#VWAtlas interior ready to go back in. I know @rutledgewood would approve lol! #plaid @vw #SEMA2017

The Atlas is brand new to the lineup and it’s selling rather well. Still, though, the family-oriented SUV could surely benefit from a few choice mods to make it a little more exciting.

Just what those are remains to be seen, but the tartan seats suggest GTI-fication. Taking a leap from there, the Atlas’ 2.0-liter turbo four could easily be pumped up to add a little GTI spice. With an optional VR6 also available, though, it would be tempting to go with the bigger engine.

And with Foust’s affinity for drifting, it’s almost certain that this will be a 4Motion Atlas. We’ll have to wait until SEMA in a few days to find out just what’s going on here, but whatever the case we’ll have pictures for you from the show floor.
