A Video Recap Of The VW ID. R’s Test Outing To The Nurburgring Share Comments Volkswagen’s brief visit to the Nurburgring this week was spent putting a baseline setup on the battery electric ID.R and making other preparations for the actual record attempt this summer. While Porsche was tight-lipped in the run-up to its outright Nurburgring lap record attempt with the 919 Hybrid LMP1 car, VW is being rather forthcoming. It has put together a short video documentary of its test session this week, showing the team working on the car and even some onboard shots of Romain Dumas driving it around the Nordschleife. VW said the ID.R team was happy with the results and feedback after completing a handful of laps, but they still have lots of work to do before the record attempt. In a statement yesterday, Dumas indicated the team was still getting to grips with the bumpy nature of the Nurburgring track surface – which presents a stark contrast to the smooth, flowing asphalt of Pikes Peak. “We have to adjust the setup a little bit,” he said. “But I really enjoy to drive the ID. R here on the Nordschleife.” The ID.R is shooting for the electric lap record at the Nurburgring, which is currently held by the Nio EP9. The electric hypercar, which makes over 1,300 hp from its battery electric powertrain, set a blistering lap of 6:45.90 on slick tires in the hands of Peter Dumbreck back in 2017.
