Budd-E Concept Wins Interior Design of the Year – Concept Vehicles Award Share Comments Some of the world’s finest designers were on hand for the Automotive Interiors Expo 2016, in Stuttgart, where the Budd-E concept, revealed at CES 2016 earlier this year, was deemed to have the best interior among concept vehicles. Based on the Budd-E’s interior “we should all be excited about the next-generation of Volkswagen interior technologies and developments,” says Graham Johnson, who is responsible for the awards. The jury was made up of 17 international, leading motor and design journalists who judge six categories, in all. The Budd-E’s interior has “lounge character” according to VW, and features a wide array of new technologies, like gesture controls. There’s also a swiveling front seat, 34-inch monitor, and a rug, which helps lend the interior its lounge-like quality. The design is meant to convey a sense of lightness, and with its mid-century design cues and modern materials it achieves it. The Budd-E is a design showcase for the future of Volkswagen electric vehicles. Thanks to the flexibility of the electric drivetrain, the size and shape of the passenger compartment are less defined by the engine. This gives designer more room to be creative.
