This means that the best seller has once again secured one of the car industry’s most prestigious annual accolades. The award was presented to Dr Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, in Stuttgart this morning. The Golf has won the prize for the ‘Compact Class’ category for the fourth year running now, thus making this popular model the winner of a total of 30 awards in the 40-year history of the “Best Cars” vote. The Golf is and remains firmly established: since its launch in 2013, this popular all-rounder has been crowned with over 40 awards at home and abroad in addition to today’s award. These include ‘Car of the Year’, ‘World Car of the Year’, ‘Auto Trophy’, ‘Auto der Vernunft’ (Most Sensible Car), Top Gear’s ‘All the car you’ll ever need’, the ‘What Car’ award and many more. Even today, the Golf is still emerging as the winner of numerous comparison tests in car magazines. The independent organisation Euro NCAP awarded the popular all-rounder its highest five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test and also awarded it four innovation awards. The success story of the Golf is singular and began 41 years ago. With more than 30 million cars built in seven different generations, the Golf has been setting the standard for decades in the compact class and still retains its leading role today when it comes to using the latest vehicle technologies. Another ground-breaking achievement by the Golf is its exterior and interior design, which has been characterised by a distinctive and timeless product and design language from the first to the seventh generation. The international readers’ choice from auto motor und sport celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The German edition, accompanied by 14 European and three non-European magazines published by the auto motor und sport Group, participated in the voting.
