ID.4 Not Coming to New York Show, Will Debut This Year Share Comments Volkswagen’s next production ID, the crossover ID.4, was expected to launch at the New York International Auto Show in April. Now it looks like there will be a failure to launch that could see it arrive in Detroit, but we’re told that it will arrive this year for sure. The automaker teased the second of its new ID. brand of electric vehicles last year at the Frankfurt auto show. The swoopy crossover was hidden at the back of VW’s booth there, but it was also decked out in camouflage, meaning we didn’t really get a great look at the vehicle, which is the production version of the ID. Crozz concept. While the ID. 3 hatch will be sold in Europe and other parts of the globe, the ID. 4 is set to be the first one sold in North America. While we had been expecting to see it in April in New York, that’s no longer the case. VWVortex spoke with VW of America COO Johan De Nysschen at the Chicago Auto Show today about the plan. Volkswagen doesn’t want the first look at the 4 to walk all over the 3’s arrival on-sale. “We will show the car when the time is right,” the executive said. “We need to get the ID.3 introduced and launched without creating a distraction with the news of the next car. But sometime this year.” So the model will be launched by the end of the year, and with its importance to the U.S. market, that could mean the newly-moved Detroit show this summer.
