Mk8 Golf R? Lightly Camouflaged Tester Spotted in the Snow Share Comments We’ve only just gotten the latest details on the eighth Golf GTI and already we’re seeing revealing pictures of the Golf R. Rumored to be unveiled at Goodwood this summer, the Mk8 Golf R is the second (and possibly last) Mk8 Golf that has been confirmed for the US market. Quad pipes out the rear seem to be the real tip-off that this will be an R, though, so we’ll reserve judgment until the full reveal. A leaked document published by Autocar on Valentine’s Day, suggests that the R will make 245 kW (328 hp). That’s looking like a reliable document, too, because its predictions for the GTI, GTE, and GTD were all correct. That would account f0r an awfully sizeable power bump over the 2019 Golf R, which makes just 288 hp in the US. The current European Golf R does, however, make 310 hp, so although the Mk8 looks like it will handily outpower the current model, either way, we don’t yet know if we’ll get the full-fat version here.
