Passat Named Best Midsize Sedan

After being tested against eight of the most popular sedans on the market, the Passat was recently named Best Midsize Sedan by Cars.com. It won thanks to its size, safety and fun-to-drive nature.

All the cars competing in the test had to have an available automatic, an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 28mpg, and a retail price of less than $28,000.

The tests resulted in the following ranking:

  1. 2016 Volkswagen Passat
  2. 2016 Kia Optima
  3. 2016 Chevrolet Malibu
  4. 2016 Hyundai Sonata
  5. 2016 Honda Accord
  6. 2016 Subaru Legacy
  7. 2016 Toyota Camry
  8. 2016 Mazda6
  9. 2016 Nissan Altima

The judging was done by a panel of judges and a couple in the market for a midsize sedan. Tests followed a 220 mile road course that tested ride, acceleration, handling, braking, cargo space, tech, and more.

“We are thrilled for the Passat to be named Best Midsize Sedan by Cars.com,” says Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America.

“In addition to the roominess, tech and safety, the standout feature of the Passat is its driving ability,” says Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor in chief. “Everyone who drove it unanimously agreed, the Passat is plain old fun to drive.”
