The Autostadt Sets New Visitor Record in 2015

  • 2.42 million visitors in 2015: 8.5% more than previous year
  • 168,514 vehicle deliveries confirm strong position

The Autostadt celebrated its 15th anniversary and set a new attendance record with 2.42 million visitors in 2015 (2014: 2.23 million). Since opening in 2000, the Volkswagen Group communications platform in Wolfsburg has attracted more than 33 million guests. The number of vehicles delivered in the Autostadt also reached a new high last year: 168,514 new cars were handed over to customers in 2015 (2014: 166,488). This volume accounts for a 28% total market share of Volkswagen cars delivered to customers in Germany.

“The past year was marked by unforeseen major challenges for the Volkswagen Group. This makes it all the more pleasing to see how people are still extremely interested in Volkswagen – which is impressively confirmed by the success of the Autostadt”, said Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Müller.

Autostadt CEO Otto F. Wachs summarized 2015 by saying: “The Autostadt’s 15th anniversary celebration was the high point for us in 2015. Our entire team contributed to this success, which is now crowned with a new visitor record. The 8.5% year on year increase is a great compliment from our guests. And their visits confirm a central task of the Autostadt: We are the friendly ambassadors of the Volkswagen Group.”

New exhibitions, including “Related Rides” in the ZeitHaus, the world’s most frequently-visited automotive museum, the diverse Autostadt educational programmes, the new DESIGN DISPLAY exhibition series and the cultural events staged with the Movimentos Festival are a few of the highlights that attracted guests in 2015. The seasonal productions in summer and winter proved to be very popular attractions, drawing nearly one million enthusiastic visitors. With more than 8,000 test drives in different Volkswagen electric vehicles, Autostadt visitors covered a distance equivalent to roughly three times the circumference of the earth.
