University Hannover Receives Six Electric Volkswagen Caddy Models for Testing

The “Leibniz University Hannover” has taken delivery of six electrically powered Volkswagen Caddy Vehicles for testing. During a 12-month fleet test, the lightweight urban delivery vehicle will be used by the Leibniz University for messenger, delivery and postal service duties, as a workshop and service vehicle and for other various transportation. The technical data gathered such as daily operating performance, energy consumption, service life and capacity of the battery cells will be sent to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for evaluation. Moreover, the practice test is accompanied by the Institute for Transportation Design’s “Arts in Braunschweig” exhibit.

The long-term tests should give Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles important insights for the development of commercial electric Caddy vehicles. Dr. Eckhard Scholz, CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles explained: “If we want to reconcile quality of life, environmental legislation and security of supply in growing metropolises, the delivery and service traffic must travel in new ways. One possibility here are electric-powered vehicles like the e-caddy. That the Leibniz University now uses six e-Caddy vehicles and shares the results of long-term practice tests with us, I am very excited. ”

The electric Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Caddy is driven with a power of 85 kW, and built-in under-floor lithium-ion batteries come in two sizes enabling a range of 90 or 136 kilometers. This is more than an exclusively intra-urban inserted vans average runs per day. The payload is the e-Caddy 575 kg (LWB) or 625 kg (short wheelbase). Special advantage: The e-Caddy can be recharged overnight at the depot of the University.
