Volkswagen Golf Alltrack Wins Best Small SUV at Drive’s 2015 Car of the Year Awards Share Comments Rugged, 4MOTION-equipped Golf Wagon takes top honours in Drive’s annual Best Car testing program Less than three months since its Australian launch, the Golf Alltrack has already claimed victory, emerging victorious in the hotly-contested Small SUV category as part of Drive’s Car of the Year Awards. The high-riding, 4MOTION-equipped version of the popular Golf Wagon impressed Drive’s judges with its refinement, performance and versatility. “Volkswagen’s Golf Alltrack squares up to the established players by offering a two-box body, but then throws a curve-ball with its ride height that’s somewhere between an SUV as we know it and the station wagon on which the Alltrack is based,” wrote the Drive team. “The turbocharged engine is punchy and lively and the six-speed DSG transmission gives sharp shifts and a very positive feel. “So, essentially, the Alltrack is one small SUV that not only tackles corners with enthusiasm, it also rides well too,” the judges added. “While the Alltrack won’t offer the high-and-mighty cabin that some buyers are looking for, that relative lack of height will win it many friends come the time to actually pilot it. And that’s why it’s the new champ in this category,” Drive’s judges concluded. Available with a 132 kW TSI petrol engine, the Golf Alltrack combines the practicality and refinement of the Golf Wagon range, with the additional unique features renowned of the Alltrack badge, including leather trim, a higher ride height above the standard Golf Wagon, additional body protection and of course, 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
